I frequently use a crossover network cable on WinXP with static IP addresses to connect to various industrial devices (e.g. robots, pumps, valves or even other Windows PCs) that have Ethernet network ports. When I do this on Windows 7, the network connection is classed as an "Unidentified Network" in Networks and Sharing Center and the public Aug 12, 2010 · I can connect directly to the modem, and I can connect my laptop (windows) xp to the internet via wireless & ethernet. After hours of searching and trying a ton of different options (netsh, bonjour disabled, MAC address manually added, disable IPv6, updated the router firmware, etc) I can't seem to find a fix that will work.
